Explore! Discover! Go Wild! (Even if you're a preschooler)

video

Where else will you find three- and four-year-olds: soaring like eagles, singing, sharing stories, donning backpacks stuffed with owl egg replicas, real otter fur, Native American tools and other cool stuff?

That's Backpack Explorers, a new learning adventure program for preschoolers and their parents or guardians each month at the High Desert Museum.

It's all about how children learn best – exploring on their own or the help of a parent or teacher. In September, preschoolers explored the Desertarium, home to live reptiles, for some hands-on fun.

And this Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 15, 16, and 17, explorers will uncover the fascinating secrets of everyday materials. Tapping into the Strange Matter exhibit, it's fun, science-based crafts and activities, all designed to amaze.

It is the only program of its kind in Central Oregon, supporting the Museum’s mission. Even children this young can be inspired to become good stewards of High Desert nature and culture.

9:30 a.m. Oct. 15-16; 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Oct. 17.
$20 per child, $15 for each additional child, (plus admission for accompanying adult)
