Many of us find that we frequently are too busy to contemplate, breathe, appreciate beauty or be inspired. That is what art offers. At the High Desert Rendezvous Art of the West Show opening tomorrow, paintings and sculpture from Western artists reflect a range of artistic interpretations of the landscape – and the spirit of the West.
The works are inspired by a range of experiences – from witnessing an elk while on a mountain hike to imagining a Spanish vacquero on horseback.
One of the artists, Mark Keathley, has said, “I want my paintings to inspire people to be still, to listen to that quiet voice, and then rise up assured that they are a part of something bigger than their schedule.”
These works do just that. And, if you want that contemplative spirit to stay with you, you can take the works home. They are on exhibit through Aug. 21, when they will be auctioned at the 21st annual High Desert Rendezvous, the Museum’s signature fundraising gala. All of the proceeds will support the Museum’s education programs.
Come and see what we’re talking about. For a digital preview, visit www.highdesertrendezvous.org, which also has information about High Desert Rendezvous. The event, at 5 p.m. on Aug. 21, features a hosted bar, wild West cowboy supper, dancing to live music by Courtney Lynn and Big Trouble, and a live and silent auction to benefit the Museum’s educational programs. Guests are invited to dress in Western gear for the evening.
High Desert Rendezvous auction tickets are $350 per couple (includes a Family Membership) and $200 for one person (includes an Individual Membership). Museum Members: $150 per person. Sponsorship packages start at $2,000. For tickets, call 541-382-4754, ext. 365, e-mail hdr@highdesertmuseum.org, or visit www.highdesertrendezvous.org.
