Back to School = Fun (at the Museum!)

Going back to school doesn't only mean classrooms and books. At the Museum, children ages two to 12 are learning about the nature, animals and people of the High Desert in fun, hands on ways. Sensory-filled storytelling, themed journeys throughout the Museum, and scavenger hunts are among the programs resuming this fall.

Totally Touchable Tales, storytelling about animals and people of the High Desert for ages two to five. Crafts, puppets and sometimes a visit from a live animal make this program unique, Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.

Schools close early on Wednesdays, a perfect time for Wild Wednesdays, themed hunts throughout the Museum for parents and children ages 7 to 12, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.. As children follow clues about about High Desert nature and animals at the Museum and uncover treasure chests, they get a prize. The hunt themes change weekly.

Weekdays, children ages two to five and their parents can do new fun things each week, from tumbling and clay to bubbles and trains. (Children must be accompanied by an adult. $5 per child daily, $3 for each additional child. Members,
$25 per year.)

Starting Sept. 27, Backpack Explorers returns. Ages 3 and 4 engage their senses on an adventure created just for them and their parents. They go on a backpack journey throughout the Museum, observe nature, animals, science, create art and take home activities based on their discoveries. It has new themes each week, starting with "Wild Frontier," in which children discover life on our re-created 1880s family ranch.
The program happens most Mondays and Tuesdays, 9 am to 10 am, through Nov. 30.
($15. Members, $10.)

No matter your age, this Museum is the place for lifelong learners!
